Snapshots of Gage in all his Glory

Meet Gage: The old Protector

Gage's Journey: Adventure and Excitement

From the moment he was brought home, Gage’s journey was one of resilience and adventure. He began life as a bullied runt and was picked up by my mom at the age of one. Despite his rough start, he quickly grew into a strong, protective, and gentle companion.
Our journey together spanned across the United States, with homes in Massachusetts, Georgia, Arizona, Idaho, and Utah. Each new place brought its own adventures. In Massachusetts, he discovered the joy of bird hunting, proving himself to be a natural. Meanwhile, in Georgia, he reveled in the humid woods, always alert and protective.
Arizona introduced the challenge of the desert but also the thrill of chasing ATVs across open landscapes. Idaho’s forests and dunes became his playground, where he could run freely and explore to his heart’s content. In Utah, he enjoyed breathtaking hikes and snowy winters, displaying an impressive calm and elder wisdom while maintaining his position as the alpha among other dogs.
He thrived in every environment, from the scorching deserts to the snowy peaks, embodying the spirit of a true adventurer. His love for hiking and walks was unbounded, and every trip was a new chapter in our book of memories.
As he aged, his protective nature only grew stronger. Nevertheless, he remained calm and gentle, a beacon of strength for our family. His final years were filled with love and comfort, always by our side, sharing in every moment of joy and sorrow.
In the end, Gage passed away peacefully in my mother’s arms, happy and surrounded by love. He left behind a legacy of loyalty, courage, and countless cherished memories. His journey from a bullied runt to a beloved elder will forever be a testament to his incredible spirit.

Snapshots of Jasper's Life

Jasper: Floppy Ears

Jasper, our lovable Labrador mix from South Carolina, has always been a bundle of joy and adventure. From the moment he joined our family as a pup, his goofy personality and love for food quickly became apparent. He loved nothing more than lounging on the back of couches, wrestling with his brother, and spending time with his best friend, Captain the cat.
His early years were filled with adventures all over Arizona, Utah, Oregon, and California. Jasper’s nose was always to the ground, exploring every new scent and often getting himself lost in the process. Consequently, his playful spirit made every outing an exciting journey.
As time went on, Jasper became the elder of the pack, stepping into the role with grace after Gage and Shadow’s passing. Though he has aged, his strength remains, and he still finds joy in play when he can. Additionally, his characteristic tooth-chattering at mealtimes never fails to bring a smile to our faces.
Recently, Jasper has faced some challenges, such as going blind in one eye and needing help with stairs. Despite this, he continues to enjoy life with his indomitable spirit, aided by regular laser treatments for his back and joints.
Even now, Jasper’s presence is a source of comfort and laughter. He may sleep more these days, but his playful energy and loving nature shine just as brightly as ever. This reminds us of all the adventures we’ve shared and the joy he continues to bring into our lives.

Snapshots of Shadow!

Shadow: Grumpy Old Lady

Shadow, our beloved shepherd, had her own unique way of navigating life. Unlike most dogs, the only thing she ever chased was a chicken, preferring the comfort of lounging in the softest spots she could find. Whether it was couches, beds, blankets, or pillows, Shadow always knew where to make herself at home.
Her love for quick hikes often showcased her playful spirit. However, she was always a bit larger and slower, favoring short, brisk adventures. Shadow’s loyalty extended only to her closest companions, Gage and Jasper, with whom she shared an unspoken bond. Despite starting as a lively and spirited puppy, she quickly transitioned into a grumpy old lady, taking comfort in her routine and familiar surroundings.
Cows were a particular fear for Shadow, and she steered clear of them whenever possible. Nevertheless, she found solace and warmth in cuddling with dad, becoming his steadfast companion. Her journey took her from Massachusetts to Arizona, and finally to Utah, with countless adventures in between.
Shadow’s life was a testament to finding joy in small comforts and familiar faces. Her journey ended peacefully, surrounded by love and the soft places she cherished. She may have been particular and selective with her affection, but those she loved knew her loyalty and warmth were unmatched.

Snapshots of Raven!

Raven: Loving Mom to Many

Raven, our beautiful Belgian Malinois, entered our lives in Arizona. Purchased from a breeder in Oklahoma, she immediately showed her loving nature and innate leadership, keeping all other dogs, including Gage, in line. On the way home, she quickly taught us the importance of strict training when she whined in her kennel and, once let out to sleep with us and Gage, chewed up Mom’s phone. Despite this mischievous start, she thrived on adventures in Arizona’s deserts, embodying both the playful spirit and protective nature of her breed.

Our move to Utah marked a new chapter in Raven’s life. Here, she became a mother, having multiple large litters of puppies. Raven’s maternal instinct was fierce; she wouldn’t let Ghost, the father, or any other dog near her pups, with Gage being the only exception. He was always welcome to marvel at her amazing little ones. Remarkably, she had only two girls in her last litter. We faced challenges, losing one pup in the first litter and two others in subsequent litters. Complications with her last litter led to a vet visit, where we discovered thinning of her uterus lining, necessitating her being fixed.

Throughout her life, Raven continued to adventure all over Utah with us, often reuniting with her grown puppies. These puppies grew larger than both her and their father, Ghost. Raven’s affectionate nature left us all feeling loved. She adored getting into our laps, rolling over, and being as close to us as possible, soaking up all the love we had to offer and giving back just as much. She had a special fondness for children and brought joy to every encounter.

Raven’s life took a sudden turn when she began having difficulty breathing. A vet visit revealed a fast-spreading cancer, giving her little time left. We did everything possible to make her last hours filled with love and comfort. Surrounded by those she loved most, Raven left us, her memory forever etched in our hearts. Her legacy lives on through her puppies, spread from Utah to Colorado, Arizona, Washington, Germany, and likely many more places. Her journey was one of love, adventure, and endless devotion.

Raven’s impact on our lives was profound, and her memory continues to bring warmth and love to all who knew her.
